I was born in Brighton England in 1958 and attended primary and secondary school in a small provincial town in Sussex. I continued my education at Canterbury College of Art Canterbury Kent, graduating in 1979, gaining a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art and Art History, majoring in Painting. I worked on the London Stock Exchange whilst continuing to paint in a semi-professional capacity as sales would allow up to 1985.
I embarked on a world trip and arrived in New Zealand February 1987. Initially I was employed in the printing industry as a Photolithographer and later as pre press artist in screen printing. Made redundant in 1991. I decided to pursue my artistic endeavors and began painting full time or rather when my responsibilities as a house husband and father of 4 would allow. More recently I attended life drawing sessions at the Waikato Society of Art (WSA). In 2006 my association with the W.S. A lead to tutoring positions in Oil painting and Life drawing.
Hopefully the following examples of current work will more fully indicate my artistic direction. I currently work from my home which I share with a dog and a cat and I'm building a purpose built studio/gallery space on my property out of straw bales and tires.
Yours faithfully
Ian Calloway
